AI Brown Bag Lunch Series

The Committee for Responsible AI at ISU is excited to present an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Brown Bag lunch series. The second meeting will include a short research presentation by Dr. Nathan Kapoor, Assistant Professor of History with a focus in the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, titled “The Shock of the Artificial: Rethinking AI Using History”. This presentation will be followed by discussion on AI in research and teaching. The event will take place Friday, January 31st, 12-1pm in STV 401.

Previous presenters include Dr. Nariman Ammar, and Dr. Mikyung Shin.

AI and the Humanities: An Interdisciplinary Symposium

The Illinois State University AI and the Humanities Symposium is a unique opportunity to foster discussion among scholars, teachers, and students from around the world and across disciplines of the humanities, arts, and connected social sciences. This event will take place April 16-18, 2025 and is currently accepting formal and informal panel proposals, individual paper proposals, roundtable proposals, and interactive activities. Calls for proposals are due November 1st.

Minds and Machines: The Synergy of AI and Student’s Success

Milner Library and the Julia N. Visor Center are partnering to develop and facilitate a series of workshops to provide a third space outside the classroom for student to explore and examine AI applications for personal, educational, and professional growth and knowledge acquisition. Workshops will be designed to address inequities in AI technology and unpack critical perspectives on the use and application of these technologies. More information coming soon!

If you were designing a new sequence related to artificial intelligence (AI) to have ready in time for the fall semester and your boss suggested that attending summer school in Paris might be helpful to that effort, that would be a good thing, right? That’s how it happened that Drs. Will Lewis and James Wolf, both faculty members in the School of Information Technology (IT), found themselves in France at “HI! PARIS,” hosted by The Institut Polytechnique de Paris in late July, just ahead of the Olympics.
