Andrea Guzman

Andrea L. Guzman (PhD University of Illinois Chicago) is Associate Professor of Communication at Northern Illinois University. Her research focuses on Human-Machine Communication and people’s perceptions of AI, including voice-based assistants, augmented journalism, and AI in education. Guzman is lead editor of The SAGE Handbook of Human-Machine Communication and editor of Human-Machine Communication: Rethinking Communication, Technology, and Ourselves. Along with Dr. Miriam Sweeney, she is currently working on a book examining voice assistants from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Guzman’s research has been published in top journals, including New Media & Society, Computers in Human Behavior, Digital Journalism, and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly and has been presented at leading interdisciplinary and disciplinary conferences worldwide.
