Outreach and Engagement: STEM Education, Diversity and Inclusion

We are passionate about communicating science to young aspiring scientists and the public more widely. We liaise with schools and a variety of community groups to provide interactive presentations relating to social insects, pollinator health, entomology, and understanding health and disease. In addition, we have contributed articles and interviews to media outlets regarding such topics as the status and conservation of native bees, the health of monarch butterfly populations, ebola transmission, Covid-19, and environmental effects on tick borne disease prevalence, among others.

In addition, we are strong advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM disciplines. Therefore, it is an honor to be involved in mentorship programs and events supporting under-represented groups in STEM. This includes the STEM Alliance program at Illinois State University. We are also coordinators of the Charles Morris STEM Social for under-represented groups.
