Story

Julie Heidecke was the No. 13 on the ISU soccer team, playing in the 1997 Fall season. On April 29, 1998, Julie passed away, at the age of 19, from a tragic automobile accident. In Heidecke’s honor, a tree was planted near the entrance to Adelaide Street Field. The plaque placed next to the tree declares Heidecke”The Twelfth Redbird on the Field.” Before every home game over the past decade, the ISU soccer players have touched the plaque before entering the field of battle. “As No. 13 on the Redbird soccer team, it was not her talent on the field that she was known for, but instead her heart.” They also remember Heidecke by having a ceremony once a year, giving the Julie Heidecke Tribute Award to a deserving ISU soccer player.
