Description

Doris Dungey was known as “Tanta” to her family, friends, and readers. She received her bachelor’s degree in English and Philosophy from Illinois State University in 1982, and her master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She spent most of her life working as a mortgage banker. She began to share her extensive loan industry knowledge writing for Calculated Risk under the pseudonym “Tanta” in 2006. Her accomplishments and talent are remembered on campus through the Doris Dungey Endowed Scholarship. Her true passion was writing, and she enjoyed interacting with her readers and touching many lives through her work. While at Illinois State University, Tanta volunteered much of her time and writing efforts to the Rape Crisis Center. One of her favorite spots was outside Milner Library, where the Doris “Tanta” Dungey memorial bench is now located. This bench was funded through donations to The Doris “Tanta” Dungey Endowed Scholarship Fund to be installed in Spring 2009.
