Description
The steel sculpture is an intricate structure of beams and bolts that stands 10 feet high. The apprentice program for local Ironworkers 112 and P.J.Hoerr Inc., approached ISU with the idea of dedicating a sculpture that would serve as a learning tool. “Instead of just looking at an illustration in a book, you can actually take the students out there and take a look at all the different types of connections steel structures can have,” said Keith Rahn, the Construction Management Program coordinator. On October 19, 2007, the program held a dedication ceremony to honor the companies and organizations that made it possible: a collaborative effort between the university, local contractor P.J. Hoerr, Inc., the local Ironworkers’ union, and several other companies.
