DEIA Book Club

School of Communication Book Club

All School of Communication faculty are invited to participate in reading and discussing diversity, equity, inclusion, & accessibility (DEIA)-related texts.

Our first year-long series is comprised of three ASC-selected texts that focus on (anti-)racism, moving from more macro, structural issues (Thomas, 2020) to individual approaches (Kendi, 2019). Attendees are encouraged to prepare for discussion by considering:

  • A main takeaway from the reading
  • A compelling quote from the text
  • A lingering question

We will discuss three books in our first series:

  • Wed, Nov 10 – Diversity Regimes by James M. Thomas. Link to ebook through Milner Library.
  • Wed, April 13 – We Want to do More than Survive by Bettina L. Love. Link to ebook through Milner Library.
  • Wed, Aug 31 – How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi.
