A brief history of Normal Parks & Rec Adult Soccer Leagueand two of its teams;American Family Insurance&Team AmFam
On the heels of a surging youth soccer participation in Prairie Cities Soccer League (PCSL), Normal Parks and Rec introduced an adult coed soccer league in 1991. The success of PCSL spawned an interest in an adult soccer option on the part of many of the PCSL coaches and parents. Others interested in adult soccer opportunities were ISU and IWU students as well as professionals from around the world who had come to Bloomington-Normal for employment opportunities in its diverse workforce. The Town of Normal recognized the high level of interest in the beautiful game and launched its adult soccer league.A group consisting primarily of PCSL coaches formed one of the inaugural teams in the league. Jeff Frank, owner of a local insurance agency and a member of the group, sponsored the team under the name of American Family Insurance and provided the uniforms. As the league became more popular it split into a recreational division and a more competitive counterpart. Frank sponsored a team in each division under the names American Family Insurance and Team AmFam.
