Chloe Milller
Chloe Miller is a senior double majoring in Political Science and Journalism. She chose to report on civic engagement because it is central to her studies and life on campus. This year, she is an intern at The Center for Civic Engagement and an Off Campus Senator for Student Government Association. Having an outlet to write about politics and community engagement is the perfect opportunity for her collegiate career.
Ben Mayo
Ben Mayo is a senior majoring in journalism and minoring in political science. Ben decided to report on civic engagement in this class because of his passion for politics, civic duty, and the community here at ISU and the greater Bloomington-Normal area. Having some experience with local politics in the area, Ben wishes to lend some first-hand knowledge through his reporting. Here he highlights his reports on the exciting and important issues this community has.
Yasmin Carrillo
Yasmin Carrillo is a senior at Illinois State University and is a double major in journalism and political science with a double minor in Spanish and Sociology. Yasmin’s interest in political science began when she became an election judge for the presidential election of 2016. Yasmin’s focus for the Political Garden is on voter suppression, with an emphasis on the homeless and indigenous communities in the Bloomington-Normal area.
Hope Beelman
Hope Beelman is an Illinois State University junior majoring in journalism with a minor in sociology. She decided to report on civic engagement with a focus on how student votes make a difference and debunking election myths because she believes it is essential for voters to understand their role in elections and their communities. Through her research and interviews, Hope has further learned the importance of promoting civic engagement, especially on college campuses.
