On October 29th, 2022, Hear-Cog Lab member, Caitlyn Welsh, participated in ISU’s Student Academy of Audiology chapter’s Halloween walkathon through Uptown Normal. Goodie bags were passed out to help throughout Uptown to spread awareness of hearing conservation. Ear plugs, candy, SAA’s social media, and ISU’s Hearing Clinic information were included inside the bags.
Proceeds from this event went to Peoria Area Speech-Language Hearing Association (PASHA). This organization in collaboration with Tena McNamara, AuD, are constructing an “Educational and Cultural Center for Individuals with Hearing Loss and their families”, housed through the Peoria Public Library. The center will not only include informational resources on hearing loss, but also literature from authors with hearing loss, fictional novels with Deaf or hard of hearing representation, and more!
If you would like to donate, please reach out to Dr. McNamara at (309) 231-1351 or tmcnamara@eiu.edu. You can also follow PASHA’s group on Facebook for more updates.
