With the beginning of the Fall semester 2023, three new researchers join the HearCog team. Mukta Manoj, Derian Cunningham, and Kathryn Beilstein take the team from 3 to 6 members!
Mukta Manoj is an undergraduate research assistant in her junior year of completing a bachelor’s of science in communication sciences and disorders. Mukta learned about the HearCog lab during her Hearing Science class and wanted to become more involved in audiology. When asked why she joined the lab, she said, “Being a part of the Hearing Cog lab became the perfect opportunity for me to begin my journey as someone interested in both research and becoming a future audiologist.”
Derian Cunningham is a graduate research student in her second-year of the audiology doctoral program. When asked about how she felt about joining the HearCog lab, she stated, “I cannot wait to delve deeper into the field of hearing and cognition! The knowledge I gain will be an incredible asset in shaping my future career.”
Kathryn Beilstein is an undergraduate research student in her junior year of completing a bachelor’s of science in communication sciences and disorders. Kathryn learned about the lab when Dr. Shende guest-lectured in her Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism class. When explaining why she joined the lab, she said joining the lab would provide her with “insight into the interactions between the brain and hearing mechanisms, allowing me to pinpoint my interests while gaining a deeper understanding of the various processes underlying hearing”.
We are excited for Mukta, Derian, and Kathryn to join the lab and see what they accomplish!
