Keynote Address Melissa Stockwell

In 2004, while serving in the US Army, Melissa was on a routine convoy through Central Baghdad and her HUMVEE was struck by a roadside bomb. The blast took her left leg and today she stands as an above the knee amputee on her left side. After a year of rehab at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, she went on to swim in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and was honored to represent the country she defended over in Iraq. In 2009 Melissa turned to the sport of triathlon and is a 3x Paratriathlon World Champion and a recent Ironman. Melissa believes in a life of sport and co-founded the Chicago based Dare2tri Paratriathlon club that gets athletes with disabilities into the sport of triathlon. She is also a certified prosthetist and fits other amputees with artificial limbs, does motivational speaking and serves on the board of directors for the Wounded Warrior Project.

This event is free and open to the public.
