The College of Applied Science & Technology, along with Illinois State University is proud to host Roy Choi on April 17, 2018, as our keynote speaker.

April 16-20, 2018

Science and Technology Week celebrates advancements in the field of science and technology, as well as the hardworking, dedicated students and professionals who make those advancements possible. Past keynote speakers include:

Professional Development Dinner

Attend this event to learn formal dining skills and conversational practices for interview and work settings, while meeting College of Applied Science and Technology alumni. 

  • 5:00-6:00 p.m. Mocktail and mingle hour
  • 6:00 p.m. Dinner and presentation
  • $20 per student
  • Registered Student Organizations can purchase seats or students may register individually.

Keynote Address Mr. Roy Choi

Born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Los Angeles, California, Roy Choi is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and later worked at the internationally acclaimed Le Bernardin. In 2010, Food and Wine named him Best New Chef. His cookbook/memoir L.A. Son was a NY Times Bestsellin in 2013. Most recently, he was included in the 2016 TIME 100 Most Influential People in the World list. And in 2017, LocoL received the first ever LA Times Restaurant of the Year award. Roy resides in Los Angeles where he is the co-owner, co-founder, and chef of Kogi BBQ, Chego!, A-Frame, Commissary, POT and LocoL.

  • This event is free and open to the public.
  • A book signing will immediately follow the lecture.

Enjoy a 5K run through Illinois State’s campus at night. This event is co-sponsored by CAST and Campus Recreation.

  • Race will start and end at the Student Fitness Center
  • Register at Alumni.IllinoisState.edu/neonrun
  • $15 for ISU Students, $20 for ISU Faculty/Staff and Community. Beginning March 28, the entry fee will increase to $20 for ISU Students, $25 for ISU Faculty/Staff and Community

Academy of Achievement Induction Ceremony

Celebrate CAST alumni during their induction to the Academy of Achievement. The Academy brings together alumni that are “thought leaders” in their fields, who, through their life work, serve as an inspiration to others to pursue similar career paths.

  • Coffee hour, 8:30-9:30 a.m. (free and open to the public)
  • Induction ceremony, 9:30 a.m. (free and open to the public)
  • Brunch, 10:30 a.m. (invitation only)

Did you know that 7 out of 8 CAST departments graduate female students into male-dominated fields?  Join us to have conversations about career success with successful CAST alumni.  Keynote speaker is Danielle Miller-Schuster, Assistant Vice President for the Division of Student Affairs.
