Note: The executive board of the Spanish Club wants to clarify the difference between the Day of the Dead and Halloween. Halloween is an observance celebrated on the night of October 31, most notably by children dressing in costumes and going door-to-door collecting candy. Halloween is not celebrated by the peoples of South and Central America. These regions celebrate the “Dia de los Muertos” or The Day of The Dead. “Dia De Los Muertos” is a ritual that is celebrated on November 1, and most of the people visit the cemetery and bring flowers and candles to loved one who is dead. There are differences in how this ritual is celebrated in these regions. In Mexico, for example, this ritual uses a lot of skulls to celebrate and honor the dead. Also, in this country the celebration last for two days and the people have an altar, music, food among other cultural aspects.
