Wib Leonard is a Professor of Sociology in the Sociology-Anthropology Department. He typically teaches social statistics, both undergraduate and graduate, and the sociology of sport.
Professor Leonard is the author of two college textbooks that have gone into multiple editions: Basic Social Statistics and A Sociological Perspective of Sport. He recently completed a book entitled Symbolic Immortality in Sports and a draft of Data Analytics for Univariate, Bivariate and Multivariate Distributions.
He is a Distinguished Lecturer and has received
numerous awards of distinction (e.g.,Outstanding
Teacher and university grants) and, internationally, is past president of the
North American Society for the Sociology of Sport.
At Illinois State he has been a Faculty Representative to the Department of
Intercollegiate Athletics and has coached youth baseball and soccer.
His "claim to fame" is that he has taught longer than any other professor in the 150+ history of Illinois State University.
