About the Program

Requirements of the Minor in Ethnic Studies:

Students in the minor will complete a minimum of 22 hours representing 8 courses from 4 designated groups:
Group I – Ethnicity;
Group II – Race and Ethnicity in the United States;
Group III – Global Context;
Group IV – Floating elective.

Majoring in Ethnic Studies

Students interested in pursuing a major in this area may arrange their program of study through the Interdisciplinary Studies Major program.  Ask the Ethnic Studies director/advisor for details.

What makes ISU’s program attractive?

Students can shape their own program to suit their own goals.  They have the freedom to study broadly across multiple areas of racial experience or geographical relevance; or to focus deeply on one or two areas.

Faculty Highlights

Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences. Dr. Craig completed her Ph.D. at Florida State University and her J.D. at Georgia State University. Her primary research focus is on racial disparities in policing outcomes such as traffic stops and citizen complaints. In addition to her research, Dr. Craig teaches Criminal Law, Law and Society, and Alcohol, Drugs, and Crime.

Dr. Henry Zintambila

Henry Zintambila was an Assistant Professor of Geography at the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Zintambila retired in May of 2020. During his academic life, the professor’s taught weather, climatology, and geography of Africa. His research interests were in the geochemistry of precipitation.
