Jesse ‘Romulus’ Vega

Salve! Mihi nomen est Romulus, or you can call me Jesse. I am history major with a minor in European studies and a minor in classical studies. I am also the scriptor of Latin Club ISU. This is my 4th semester of Latin and my interest in Latin stemmed from my interest in etymology. For me, the history of words is just as interesting as the histories of the people that use them. My contribution to our project was transcribing folio 13 from our Carthusian breviary. Working on this project with Dr. Jasper and all the wonderful Latin students has been a privilege and a joy.

Caleb Zuiderveen

I am a historian who studies the development of Christianity during 6th century, specifically looking at Gregory the Great. I graduated with my Master’s of Arts in History in December of 2018, writing a thesis titled “After Faith, Hope, and Love: The Unique Divergence of Ascetism by Gregory the Great and Maximus the Confessor.” I enjoy Latin not only because it helps me with my research, but also because learning Latin has helped me learn other languages including Koine Greek and Spanish. Furthermore, I personally find translating Latin enjoyable and a fun puzzle to try and solve! I hope that this experience transcribing helps me further my understanding of Latin while also helping others read and understand the text.
