Research Interests:
Research in the Standard group is in the area of computational chemistry. The major themes of our research include investigations of weakly bound intermolecular complexes, studies of atmospherically and environmentally significant chemical reactions, and development of molecular potential energy surfaces. One current project involves elucidation of the mechanisms of atmospheric sulfur chemistry, with particular focus on the formation of sulfuric acid from sulfur dioxide in the production of acid rain. Another project, in conjunction with Prof. Robert Quandt of Bemidji State University, is related to obtaining a detailed understanding of the combustion of unsaturated hydrocarbons and the production of formyl radical, a key combustion intermediate.
