PSY 340 (Statistics for the Social Sciences)

This course is designed to cover hypothesis testing in the behavioral sciences, building on concepts learned in PSY138. The logic, assumptions, computation, and interpretation of inferential statistics will be covered, including correlation and bivariate regression; one-sample, paired-samples, and independent-samples t-tests; and one-way and two-way ANOVA. In addition to the logic of hypothesis testing, PSY 340 will integrate the use of the software package SPSS as a tool for data management and hypothesis testing. Writing skills will also be developed through a research report and open-ended exam questions. 

PSY 426 (Research & Practice in I/O-Social)

This professional seminar for the I/O-Social Psychology MA sequence meets every other week to discuss research and practice issues, and to hear research presentations from students, faculty, and guest speakers.

PSY 476 (Grad Seminar in Organizational Psych)

The objectives of the course are threefold: 1) to develop a basic knowledge of empirical and theoretical information in the area of organizational psychology; 2) to translate this information into practical diagnostic and intervention strategies; 3) to continue to prepare you for professional interactions.

PSY 138 (Reasoning in Psychology using Statistics)

This course covers an introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics used in psychology and other social sciences. There is both a lecture and lab component to the course and students will use SPSS statistical software to analyze data in the lab portion of the course.

PSY 223 (Social Psychology)

This course is designed to encourage you to think in a more informed, systematic, rational, and critical way about the determinants of social behavior. Specifically, students will improve their understanding of the dynamics of social behavior, increase knowledge about research methods used in social sciences, and improve writing and critical reasoning skills. Course topics include social thinking and self-construals, attitudes, persuasion, conformity, dynamics of group behavior, prejudice, aggression, interpersonal attraction, eyewitness memory, and jury decision-making.
