• Know the prices of the textbooks you select.

• Make timely decisions so students can compare purchase and rental options. The textbook adoption deadline is always the Friday before class registration opens for the upcoming term. Students should have a list of textbooks by advance registration time.

• Investigate lower-cost options such as unbundled texts and rental availability.

• Consult with your subject librarian to see if Milner Library already offers or can license an e-book version of your textbook.

• Place an extra copy of your textbook on library course reserve.

• Consider replacing a textbook with readings made available through electronic course reserves and/or content provided through library databases.

• Investigate open textbooks and open educational resources.

• Consider using the same textbook in all sections of a course.

• Compare content changes between editions and keep older editions when appropriate.
