Information for Employers

The Actuarial Program at Illinois State University is a Society of Actuaries’ Center of Actuarial Excellence. We were the first Center of Actuarial Excellence in the state of Illinois, and are now one of only two in the state. There are only a limited number of universities that have attained this recognition, slightly over 30 worldwide. We were among the inaugural recipients of the Center of Actuarial Excellence designation in 2009, one of the first thirteen universities in the world to receive it, and the first one in the state of Illinois. Our program also won the 2016 Casualty Actuarial Society University Award, one of the first four universities in he world to receive it. We also won the 2019 Casualty Actuarial Society University Award. In 2023, Casualty Actuarial Society created a new University Recognition system, in which we are ranked at Gold Level, the highest one.

Notably, our insurance program also has the highest levels of recognition. In June 2018, Illinois State University received the designation of a Global Center of Insurance Excellence (recertified in 2024). In February 2018, Best’s Review listed Illinois State University among the best four colleges to study insurance in the United States.

Employers are always welcome to visit our campus, meet with our students and faculty, and make presentations to the Actuarial Club. We will accommodate every request employers might have in terms of presenting our students as candidates to them. We offer an online database of students’ resumes. Our main actuarial employment event is called Meet the Firms, and it is held every year in late September or early October. We ask employers to register for Meet the Firms by following these instructions.

Employers who want to support our program, can donate here. We offer scholarships funded by numerous employers, and funding a scholarship named after an empoloyer is an excellent way to build goodwill with students, who are potential employees. For every scholarship funded by an employer, employees of that employee receive 5% discount on fees for our online seminars for professional actuarial examinations. Please consider supporting the future of the actuarial profession by donating here.
