The power and value of imagination

Once upon a time, all transportation was muscle or wind powered. Then we started burning fossil carbon and building ever better machines to contain and direct that energy, and now we have SUV’s and Boeing 767s. We live miles from where we work, and we can’t go visit one another without destroying our grandchildren’s future.

But hey, cheer up, take a step back.Long Description

We are equipped with a superpower: imagination. And another superpower: invention. We can picture our communities as different from what exists now. We can get from one place to another without pulling the rug out from under future generations.

Picture yourself and your relatives living in sustainable cities and communities, and getting around by various kinds of public and micro transport. Imagine nearly limitless clean energy around for the taking. Think about moving information when you don’t have to move matter.

Just think about people in the late 1700’s debating if people could live without kings, and buying whale oil to light their shops. How many of them could imagine your car? Your iPhone? Or even a modern bicycle? Dare to think ahead!
