We are starting to get requests from faculty for document cameras to use when teaching from their office or from home. While it is not possible to hand out ELMO cams (like we have in the classrooms), a simple document camera can be very useful.
Video: Our latest accessory fits a Logitech C-920 webcam or equivalent. This is a prototype model; the current version has adjustable height.
We designed this document camera stand in-house for a robust, inexpensive document camera stand that can be widely distributed.
It has a swivel head for flipping between WebCam and Document Camera modes. While it is designed for the very common Logitech C-920 webcam, a knockoff model should work fine. We can easily add a tripod socket to other webcams that do not have one.
Simply clip the base on the clipboard, attach the webcam, secure the cable with 2 pieces of Velcro and go. For DocCam mode, swivel the head away from you and flip the camera down. For WebCam mode, swivel the camera toward you and flip the camera up.
For added stability, the stand can be mounted on a plywood board, or tied to a paving brick.
Faculty at the College of Business can request one from the Faculty Resource Center. We have also created a version that uses a cell phone instead of a document camera. Faculty at the College Of Business can request either kind from the Faculty Resource Center in SFHB 025.
.Other colleges and departments are welcome to contact me for 3D printing files and assembly instructions. Assuming you have a 3D printer, the camera stand costs less than $8 to make, and is easy to assemble and use.
