  • End of June 2024 – It is getting serious! Martin, Jessica, Lindsey, and Farimah are preparing to move to Tennessee to embark on a new adventure in the department of BCMB at UTK. Martin says “It is a bittersweet time, saying goodby and leave behind a department with fantastic students, faculty, colleagues, and friends, but at the same time looking forward to getting to know new people and doing research at BCMB. ISU as a whole provided my lab with supportive environment that felt like a home.”

  • November 15, 2023 – Mokbil delivers a seminar entitled “Autoinhibition Mechanism of Kinesin-2 Function” as part of the MCB seminar series.
  • October 20, 2023 – Farimah, Lindsey, Danny, Martin, Shivani, and Mokbil travel to Chicago for an afternoon of talks and networking at the Chicago Cytoskeleton mini-conference. Martin gives a talk entitled “Characterization of the disease-causing mechanisms of KIF3b mutations from ciliopathy patients.”
  • October 6, 2023 – Dr. Alrazi visits the lab and presents a special seminar entitled “Novel Photochromic Compound Inhibits Mitotic Kinesin Eg5 in Multiple Isomerization States.”

  • September 22, 2023 – Caleb delivers his public thesis defense seminar entitled “Characterization of the Autoinhibition Mechanism of the Heterodimeric kinesin-2 motor protein KIF3A/KIF3B” as part of the NP seminar series.

  • July 26, 2023 – Martin gives his second talk in the MiQ seminar series entitelled “Characterization of the disease-causing mechanisms of KIF3b mutations from ciliopathy patients.”
  • July 19, 2023 – The Manna, Engelke, and Kim labs receive one of the newly introduced ARCS grant from the provost office of Illinois State University. We received $200,000.00 for two years for the collaborative “Development of an apical TIRF-illumination super-resolution microscope for cell biology research.
  • July 5, 2023 – I am thrilled that to proposal from @EngelkeLab to an open call from @AI4LifeTeam was selected. We look forward to working with AI experts to develop a strategy for automatically detecting and measuring primary cilia in epifluorescence images of cultured cells.
  • May 22, 2023 – Martin visit’s a friend at Lawrence University, WI and gives a seminar entitelled “Protein Engineering Illuminates the Regulation and Function of Kinesin-2 Motors.”

  • July 26 – 29, 2022 – Martin attends the EMBO Laboratory Leadership Course for Group Leaders at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research.
  • June 26 – 30, 2022 – Ayoola, Caleb, and Martin attend the FASEB ‘The Biology of Cilia and Flagella Conference’ in Tuscan, Arizona. Ayoola and Caleb present posters of their research projects. Martin helps organize the ‘Meet-the-expert session’ and presents a poster and talk about the data from the USRF students Skye, Jordyn, and Ronith.
  • May 31, 2022– Ronith Dasari joins the lab, and Jordyn Reid and Skye Rogers continue in the lab for 8 weeks as 2022 USRF fellows. They will work on the characterization of disease-causing mutations in the motor protein subunit KIF3B.
  • May 14, 2022 – Skye wins the prestigious $1000 Borst Scholarship. Congrats Skye!
  • May 14, 2022 – Caleb wins a $500 Rilett Award to present a poster at the Biology of Cilia and Flagella Conference in Tucson, AZ. Congrats Caleb!
