While Camtasia is a capable video editor, and unmatched for screen capture, there is a need for a simpler, high-quality editor to produce professional-grade results. Adobe RUSH is aimed squarely at that need.
Can you really learn anything useful about RUSH in just 15 minutes? Yes. I watched several introductory videos so you don’t have to. And this one is the best of the lot:
RUSH is a simplified version of the very high-end video editing platform, Premiere Pro, but it is more than that. RUSH also has mobile device versions, that allow you to edit video wherever you are, even if all you have available is a phone or tablet.
The basic workflow in Adobe Rush is:
- “Create a new project”
- Select media file(s) you want to use in the project
- “Create” button lower-right of screen
- Click blue “Plus” sign for “Add” and select ‘Media’ to add more files, or the box icon right under it to show the files already in your project.
- Drag the files you want to the project timeline
- Use editing tools (right-hand side of window) to edit the timeline
- Save file
- “Share” file, usually to a local file, mp4 type, 1080p, 25 frames for second.
- Upload the .mp4 file to a video platform like Office365 video
One feature that RUSH lacks is screen capture, but you can do screen capture with ScreenCastOMatic, and save as an mp4 file that you can then add to your RUSH project. And RUSH has all the features ScreenCastOMatic lacks, in a clean, easy-to-use interface.
If you have a Camtasia license and enjoy using it, don’t change. But if you are looking for a nice video editor, give Rush a try. You can install RUSH using the Adobe Creative Suite application.
